The term "urban research university" is one step closer to being defined after the Academic Research Committee of the Academic Senate at Youngstown State University presented a one-page draft to attendees at the body's monthly meeting.
Committee chairman Frank Li, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, said the committee is open to suggestions, ideas and clarifications for the definition document.

A discussion between Slippery Rock Borough and Township members became heated Wednesday night while discussing the fate and possible merging of the two communities.
Blase Tucci, a resident of Slippery Rock Borough and Vice President of Slippery Rock Council, started the meeting held in Advanced Technology and Science Hall by presenting facts about a potential merger or consolidation of the Borough and Township.

SRU students that receive stipend money for working at student organizations are well paid. So well paid, in fact, that students working for the Student Government Association, The Rocket, W-SRU Radio and the University Programming Board are paid higher than students at eight of the other 13 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education institutions.

The SRU Council of Trustees approved a capital budget request for $120.7 million for a five-year plan of construction projects on campus.
Some of the main projects include renovating McKay Education Building and Bailey Library, building a new University Union and consolidating all support groups and services into the Student Success Center (the current University Union).

In 20 years much has changed. Tuition escalated from $2,700 a year to $6,956, stamps increased from 25 cents to 43 and gasoline jumped from $1.19 a gallon to $2.66. One thing, though, has stayed the same: Youngstown State University's part-time faculty's salary.
