That may be a record for most parentheses in a paragraph. Anyway, I just have to take a moment to mention that this is also Schneider's best supporting role in a Sandler movie. Yes, I know his other roles weren't very big, but he is hilarious in this movie. Most of the guffaws are credited to him and it just goes to show that he has great range as random obscure foreigners. And Astin, apparently trying to get as far away from his hobbit character as possible, is great as her muscle-obsessed lisped brother. Pretty much everyone does a good job in this flick.
It's not all spectacular, however. I can see how some people won't be thrilled. There is a lot of classic Sandler humor, including disgusting sexual comedy (such as a horny androgenous co-worker) and other jokes prevalent in his other movies. Although, the more I think about it, the less of that type of humor there is compared to the other flicks is substantial. The word I'd use for this movie is "fresh." Yes, it's a Sandler comedy, but it's a fresh one.
Well, that's it then. I highly recommend this movie. Guys will like it, girls will love it, so it's a perfect date movie. Everyone's good in it, everyone's funny in it, it's an interesting story and honestly, it's very romantic. Maybe the romantic comedy genre isn't as hopeless as we thought... especially if I take "Home Fries" out of that genre and put it into the "complete bucket o' crap" genre. Now there's hope for romantic comedies again.
