SRU women's basketball entered the Golden Bear Classic at Kutztown University, looking to shake of its demons from last season.

The Rock was marred by injuries and turnovers, and the team was hoping the 2008-09 season would bring about change.

But the Rock women (0-2) struggled offensively throughout the weekend and dropped its first two games of the season.

The Rock faced off against the LeMoyne College Dolphins (2-0) on Sunday. SRU came out quick as a steal by junior guard Julie Molloy on LeMoyne's opening possession led to a lay-up by junior forward Jess Schake, as SRU jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

The Green & White battled the Dolphins through the first 15 minutes of the first half. With the game deadlocked a 24-24, the Rock attack faltered. SRU attempted only one field goal and committed five turnovers in the final five minutes of the half and LeMoyne took a 33-27 lead into the break.

Another string of turnovers to open the second half left SRU on the wrong end of a 10-2 run in the first three minutes. With the run, LeMoyne extended their lead to 43-29 with 16:50 left in the game.

The offense kept pushing, and a basket and foul shot by senior forward Sasha Sales cut the deficit to nine at 50-41 with 12:48 left in the game.

LeMoyne then followed up with another quick run, outscoring SRU 9-2 in the next two minutes to extend the lead to 59-44 with 10:45 left to play.

The Rock could not get the deficit any closer than 12 points, and ended up losing 85-73 final score.

Junior guard Sandra Busser, currently out of the lineup while recovering from heart surgery, said she noticed the team's streaks of scoring and turnovers.

"It was just a rollercoaster," Busser said. "One minute they're making the extra pass on offense and talking on defense, the next minute it's a completely different team."

Coach Laurel Heilman expressed disappointment that her team allowed its opponent to shoot 9-for-21 (43 percent) from behind the three-point arc.
