The following are some highlights from the Cooperative Activities Board meeting Thursday:
• Because the Green Fund awarded the Student Government Association $20,000 for a tracking system for its shuttle buses, Co-Op approved allocating up to $20,000 from budgetary reserves to the shuttle bus budget. SGA Vice President of Public Relations Tyson Johnston said the system will cost $30,000, and the extra $10,000 will be "cushioning" for things such as advertising. Johnston said the system will allow students to track where the bus is, how fast it is going and how many people are on it. "The ultimate goal is to make the bus easier to ride so less people drive," Johnston said.
• The board approved giving $3,000 to the National Pan-Hellenic Council for the "Rock the Yard" step show. The step show will be held the weekend of April 25, and Melyssa Ford, a model who has appeared on MTV and VH1, will be a guest at the event. This will be the third annual step show. It was previously hosted by SUMA, Student Union for Minority Affairs.
• Co-Op approved paying up to $360 for fuel for the Phi Alpha Theta trip to Washington, D.C. Phi Alpha Theta originally requested $310 for lodging and $50 for fuel, but in the past, the board has only funded lodging for athletics that made it to playoffs. SGA President Larry Brink said giving them only $50 for fuel would be essentially denying them the trip, so the board agreed to provide them with up to $360 for fuel.
• Co-Op approved giving $3,273 to Women's Rugby to attend the Collegiate Division II Nationals in Florida. The money will cover the cost of transportation and lodging.
• The board approved reimbursing the Inline Hockey Club for $676 for the regional playoffs. Berger said the club took the trip Feb. 20, but she did not receive the papers until Wednesday.
• Co-Op approved funding Alpha Kappa Alpha up to $1,000 to bring a speaker to campus during Skee Week, a week during which Alpha Kappa Alpha, a historically black sorority, will be holding events.
• The board approved the request by Building Bridges for $1,750 for a cultural diversity banquet.
