The SRU men's soccer team played its final three regular season games over the past two weeks and set itself up to take on Mercyhurst College in the first round of the PSAC playoffs. The Rock beat the Lakers in a shootout Wednesday to advance to the PSAC championship.

In a very close match that went through two overtime periods, SRU outscored the Lakers 6-5 in a shootout to get the 2-1 victory.

SRU gave up an early goal in the 18th minute to Mercyhurst forward Billy Colton, falling behind 1-0. The Rock remained in a solid battle all game and finally got the equalizer in the 72nd minute by Langstone. Deighton and Lloyd helped the assists to Langstone's goal.

After regulation time ended, both teams battled back and forth with neither breaking, forcing a shootout, which would go back and forth for eight rounds. In the eighth round, Pool made his penalty kick and then Greg Blum was able to stop Eric Steinmetz's attempt to stretch the game into a ninth round, giving SRU the victory.

SRU started its final three game push to the playoffs against the University of the District of Columbia. The Rock controlled the game and went on to win 5-0, raising its record to 15-2.

Senior forward Jeremy Deighton got the scoring started against the University of D.C., but sophomore forward Kenneth Fultz was the star of the game by recording a hat trick. After Fultz scored three goals, giving SRU a 4-0 lead, sophomore defender Ryan Pindroh sealed the deal adding a fifth SRU goal.

The Rock victory set up for a thrilling PSAC-West battle against Mercyhurst, where the winner of the match would receive the PSAC-Western Division title.

After many controversial calls and three ejections, the Rock was not able to hold off Mercyhurst and gave up a late goal, giving the Lakers a 2-1 victory.

The Rock's only goal in the game was recorded in the first minute by junior defender Thomas Pool and was assisted by sophomore defender Patrick Conley.
