SRU students will have the opportunity to let loose one last time before finals week when hip-hop artist Fabolous performs Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in the University Union's Multi-Purpose Room.

The University Program Board made the decision to bring Fabolous based on feedback from students, said Audrey Foreback, UPB Vice President of concerts and a sophomore elementary education major.

She said the UPB conducted a survey in the beginning of the year that gave students the opportunity to choose from five different artists.

Motion City Soundtrack received the most votes and UPB brought the band here Oct. 2 for the homecoming concert.

Fabolous came in third place, but was chosen over a rock group in order to alternate genres.

Fabolous was one of two choices in the rap/hip-hop genre, and she said was chosen over Kid Cudi.

According to Foreback, there isn't always a winter concert.

"It depends each year on the vice president and the budget," she said. "This year, we got lucky enough to have a budget able to give a bigger variety of activities."

Last year's winter concert was Gym Class Heros.

Tickets for the Fabolous concert went on sale Nov. 3 and will be on sale up until the night of the concert, where tickets will be sold at the door if they're still available.

But Foreback said the tickets are going fast.

The cost of a ticket is $5 for an SRU student and $10 for a non-SRU student.

They're allowed to buy up to four tickets each.

Foreback said that SRU's success in bringing big names to campus appeals to people from all over.

"A lot of people are excited," she said. "We attract different schools to the university."

Foreback said that UPB stands behind its motto, "It's always a good time to get involved," and has been encouraging students to attend the concert.

"I just want everybody to take a load off before finals week," she said.

She said she hopes the concert will leave students with good memories of the fall 2009 semester.

Senior business major Mike Ingram said that he appreciates the choice of Fabolous.

"He was sick back in the day," he said. "I remember he had good hooks when I was in junior high school and then he just up and disappeared from the radio. I like Fabolous. I'm excited."

Nicole Devlin, junior business major, agreed with Ingram.

"Fabolous is the 'bomb.com,'" Devlin said. "I have been wanting to see him in concert for

years."

UPB was unable to release the amount it cost to bring Fabolous to campus, but the business manager of the Cooperative Activities Board, Cathy George, said she'll receive that information within the next few weeks.

The Multi-Purpose Room doors will open an hour before the concert.
