Society needs healthcare wake up call

I bet you didn't know that. Apparently British comedian Russell Brand believes it's free. It's kind of sad that I know more about his country than he does.

Remember this the next time you're filling your gas tank at the pump.

British citizens pay upwards of $10-$15, after conversions, per gallon of gas.

Do you know why? That's because gasoline is taxed in Britain.

That's the genius of it.

Government-run healthcare is funded by taxpayers, not the government.

Yes, it's great to have everyone in the country covered, but why should I or anyone else have to pay for healthcare if we don't want or need it?

Now, for Sarah Palin's coined term: "death panels."

Some Conservatives say there'll be panels that are going to decide who lives and who dies.

Of course, it's political drivel devised to scare people, but which political party doesn't do that?

Great Britain has something called "citizen panels."

The bottom line is that if the government is using your tax dollars (their money) to fund all of this, they'll watch what they do with each and every cent.

I don't care what any politician says.

How people fail to realize this is beyond me.

The government will have a say, not in terms of who lives or dies but how long you might have to wait for treatment, or with the quality of the healthcare.

Go look it up.

These problems do exist in Great Britain's system.

If anyone wants to pay for good quality healthcare, they should have the right to pay for that, not anyone else's. What's wrong with having a choice to maybe choose your doctor or when you want your treatment?

I believe we have this healthcare problem because we've become a far different country than the one our forefathers had envisioned. We've become a country that's lazy and looking for someone to blame instead of going out and doing something about it ourselves. We didn't get to be a world super power by doing that, folks.

No one president, nor one politician nor a government ever got us to where we are today.

Lincoln didn't free the slaves and unite a nation in the 1860s-it was a group of people who loved their country.

He only helped to inspire it. Franklin Delanoe Roosevelt and his New Deal didn't get us out of the Great Depression, our participation in World War II did. We, the citizens of this great country, did all of it.

That's one important thing we've all forgotten.

The US spends 16% on health care while still leaving at least 15% of its citizens uninsured. Every single other industrialized nation in the world has universal health care, and all of these countries spend less than the United States. (Continued…)

As a former underwriter for a major insurance company, I can tell you that there is nothing ethical left to preserve in the current system. Insurance companies exist for one reason: to make money and deny care. (Continued…)

The writer is wrong....WW2 did NOT get us out of the Great Depression..It ended after the war... after the war, taxes were cut by one third, spending was cut by two thirds. (Continued…)
