Memories of the first college dorm room, the first class in a university setting, the first English paper and the first day spent in the library are irreplaceable. But the college years are quickly fleeting.

College students will soon find themselves thinking about graduation and finding a job after college. Believe it or not, the 'real world' awaits after accomplishing goals at SRU. Feelings of excitement, relief, anxiety and confusion may blur into one while students travel through college and begin to contemplate their role as a working member of society. That's where the SRU Green and White Society's first 'Backpacks to Briefcases' program comes in to help to ease the apprehension of getting that first job interview after the college journey concludes.

The Green and White Society invites students to participate in its first alumni networking event called 'Backpacks to Briefcases,' which will be held Friday, Nov. 20. The event will kick off with a brief presentation by Career Services at 4:00 p.m. in the Alumni House, followed by a bus trip to Stone Pepper's Grill in Mars, Pa.

Andrew Bolla, 21, a junior history major and VP of alumni relations and organizer of Backpacks to Briefcases for the Green and White Society.

"Backpacks to Briefcases is a chance to meet and mingle with alumni, and an opportunity for students to learn the importance of networking," Bolla said. "It also gives students a chance to participate in a mock-interview setting, semi-formally."

Students will casually gain experience talking to professional alumni while they enjoy hot appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages, Bolla said. Students will chat with SRU Alumni from a variety of majors about their college careers, experiences they have gained and accomplishments they have made thus far in their academic careers, while gaining tips for success from experienced alumni.

The 'Backpacks to Briefcases' event is sponsored by the Green and White Society, the SRU Alumni Association and the SRU College of Business, Information and Social Sciences and funded in part by SGA. Students will have the opportunity to apply various professional networking skills.
