Deighton, the Atlantic Region Player of the Year, claims to be average.
"I'm just an average kid who grew up playing sports with my brothers and always staying active," he said.
As a child, Deighton played basketball and baseball, but always favored soccer over the other sports.
"Soccer was always my favorite," Deighton said. "Once I got in high school, it was the only competitive sport I played. I didn't get a growth spurt until junior year and I could get by that in soccer."
Deighton has been able to post some prolific stats in his career at the Rock.
He received many awards from his hard work and success at St. Ignatius High School (Ohio).
He was a three-year letter winner there and helped lead it to the 2005 Ohio Division I state and national championships with a perfect 23-0 record. He was also recognized on the third team All-Country team and was named first team All-Sun Newspaper.
In his four years at SRU, Deighton has been able to place himself with the all-time greats of the SRU men's soccer program, ranking fourth in career scoring with 112 points.
This year, he posted his best collegiate season, scoring 21 goals and seven assists for 49 points, giving him the third highest overall scoring season in school history.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be on the list and to hear [coach Matt Thompson] talk about the other names on the list and how good they were," Deighton said.
He's also received many awards in college for his achievements on the field. In his junior year, he received PSAC-West Player of the Year and won it again this year.
He was also named to first team All-PSAC and first team All-Region teams over the past two years. Also, he received the Daktronics NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Year Award this year.
