SRU women's ice hockey team faced disappointment two weekends in a row thanks to a cancellation against Drexel University and a loss to Villanova University.

In the game against Nova, SRU fell short on its home ice on Nov. 14, 4-1.

SRU was scheduled to play the Drexel Dragons on Nov. 7, but both teams and their fans were let down when the referees never showed up.

The decision is pending whether the game will count as an automatic win for Drexel, SRU or if it won't count at all.

Villanova made one of its four goals on a power play while junior center Kellianne Burdorf was put in the penalty box, the second of three times that game.

The Rock redeemed itself when junior center Katie Sines scored in the third period with assists from teammates freshman forwards Amy Bauman and Amanda Althouse.

The Wildcats had 32 shots on goal, giving SRU junior goalie Emily Greer a .875 save percentage.

SRU had 29 shots on goal, giving Villanova goalie Shannon Noonan a .968 save percentage.

Captain and senior defenseman Lora Gasiewski looks at the loss as a learning experience.

"Despite the fact that we lost, it was a good experience to teach us that we need to work harder as a team," she said. "We have the talent individually, but we need to combine that talent to work as a team."

Assistant captain Sines said that the Rock has some work to do.

"We need to have more shots on goal and our passes need to be more precise," she said.

SRU has a shot at revenge this weekend when it heads to Philadelphia to play Drexel and Villanova again on Saturday and Sunday.

"We plan on coming home with two wins," Gasiewski said.

Gasiewski and Sines said that they might even play Drexel twice this weekend to make up for the canceled game.

SRU won't have another home game until next semester when it goes against Rutgers University on Jan. 23.
