Monthly journal to be published at SRU March 1

The Rocket will be joined by another voice on-campus when the Rock Review makes its debut March 1.
Editor-in-chief, Matt Ligman, a 25-year-old junior economics major with a minor in political science, said that the Rock Review will be a monthly journal, distributed on the first of each month during the academic year. It'll feature 20-32 pages, all in color and folded in tabloid style, he said.
"Most campuses have more than one newspaper," Ligman said. "We feel it is a necessary check-and-balance."
Ligman said that another newspaper would give more students the opportunity to get involved.
The Rock Review currently has around 22 staffers, all volunteers. Ligman said that they received an $850 grant from the Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C., to help get them started, and will ]use money from advertising to help cover costs.
He said that the rest of the money is coming out of their pockets-something Ligman feels shows their commitment and that the Rock Review is driven by passion, not money.
The Rock Review meets Tuesdays at 6 p.m. in the University Union, but doesn't have an office of its own.
"I basically work out of my book bag," Ligman said.
The paper will be printed at the Butler Eagle and have a circulation of 3,000.
"I've been very happy with all the help that's been offered from the Rocket," Ligman said. "If it wasn't for the help from The Rocket, this wouldn't be possible."
He added that The Rocket staff helped teach him how circulation works, about the legal aspects of journalism and how to fine-tune his style.
Although grateful for The Rocket's guidance, Ligman said that the Rock Review will provide different insights and investigations.
"We felt like we wanted to have a different voice on campus," he said.
According to the Rock Review's mission statement, its general beliefs include that "the university should be a forum for free exchange of ideas and rational, informed debate instead of the current climate in which ideological dogma, political correctness and apathy interfere with academic pursuit."
