The change was made after there wasn't enough money for athletic scholarships. Now, all of the revenue will go toward athletic scholarships.
SGA then decided that electronic voting booths cannot be used in upcoming elections because they can't be used for all candidates, the condition required for approval.
Instead, SGA discussed online voting for the 2010-2011 election, but the issue was tabled until Feb. 15 when it will hold an extra meeting solely to discuss the issue.
It was delayed because some senators felt SGA didn't know enough about online voting to approve it.
In other SGA news, the senate voted on open senator positions including freshman, Building D, North Hall and commuter. The open commuter position had the most competition with three students hoping to fill the spot.
Hannah Glass, a senior public health major; Matt Ligman, a junior economics major, and Casey Reiland, a business management major, were the candidates given a chance to explain why the senate should vote for them.
After an 8-7-7 vote, Reiland was chosen.
Reiland, who was an SGA senator once before, said that his five years at SRU have given him a good look at what's important to students. He said that his main goal as a commuter senator would be to reorganize how parking permits are distributed.
Elston Vanstory was elected freshman senator in an 11-9 vote against one other candidate.
"I can help tackle issues like diversity and other things like that," he said.
Sophomore accounting major, Matt Henderson, was almost elected as Building D senator, but his eligibility was disabled because of an SGA rule that states that candidates must attend one SGA meeting before the Senate can vote them in. The vote for Henderson was postponed until Feb. 18.
Henderson is also a member of the Association of Residence Hall Students.
"I see this as a really good opportunity to get involved," he said.
A senator for North Hall was also chosen.
Vice President of Student Affairs Sam Goodge discussed installing a color printer at the library, charging $1 per page, and Speaker of the Senate David Thorne advocated putting a Redbox in the University Union.
SGA also approved of the Italian Society, an organization where members can learn about Italian culture, phrases and food. Plus, the Rock Review, a new campus newspaper, was approved.
SGA also approved the Red Cross Club, an organization that practices all aspects of community service.
All organizations must be approved by SGA for one year before they can be put on the budget.
